Modified (7th & 8th Grade) Season Begins Wed 9/1 at 4pm at CHS

The Modified season will begin Wednesday 9/1 at 4pm at Columbia HS. Players are to meet Coach Merhige by the front gate at Budnowski Field at 4pm. Players will go to the equipment room to get sized for equipment and then return to the field (at the conclusion of the FROSH scrimmage) to begin practice with athletic testing and practice #1. Practice will be finished by 6:15pm on the turf field.

Players need to bring water, cleats AND sneakers, and a big gym bag to keep their equipment in after it has been issued.

Practice #2 will be on Thurday at Goff Middle School from 4-6pm.

The time and location of Practice #3 for Friday 9/3 will be given to the players on Thursday 9/2 due to Coach Merhige’s wedding on Saturday 9/4.

Our football program appreciates your patience and flexibility during this time around Coach Merhige’s marriage.

Columbia Football Booster Meeting 8-24-10, 7PM

Columbia Football Booster Club will be meeting on Tuesday, August 24,2010 at the Panera in East Greenbush. The meeting starts at 7pm. Topics include the upcoming Kick Off BBQ(Friday, 8-27), Opening season games, sportwear, and other exciting topics.

All are welcome, and both men and women are encouraged to attend. If you have commitments that require you to come late or leave early, no problem, we all understand.

Remember, many hands make light work.

Football earns $1,000+ in coin drop!

Thanks to all the players, coaches and parents who participated in Saturday’s coin drop. Special thanks also to the people in the EG Community and Walmart for helping Columbia Football. The $1,000+ , earned in a short 6 hours will go a long way to providing valueable equipment, uniforms and meeting the basic needs of the football program.

Coin Drop Saturday, August 21, EG Walmart

Columbia football will have the opportunity to coin drop at the East Greenbush Walmart on Saturday, August 21, 8 am to 6:30pm. This is a first time unique opportunity for Columbia Football to earn “free money” for our program. Players have practice on Saturday from 8 am to 12 pm. Players should shower and then report to Walmart for shifts of 30 minutes to 1 hour. Players should wear a Columbia Football shirt or anything Columbia.

Parents will be covered the 8 am -12 shift.

Please come at whatever time works best for your player and family. Any help or time that players can contribute is appreciated and the money earned will support all levels of Columbia football.

Mandatory Meeting Grades 9-12: 8/15/20101

There is a MANDATORY meeting for all players (with a parent or guardian representative) grades 9-12 on Sunday 8/15 at 6pm at the pavilion at the YMCA. The meeting should last approximately 45 minutes. Please bring your insurance information as you will be responsible for completing and returning the ”blue card” medical form.

On Monday 8/16, all HS players need to be in the Cafeteria at the HS between 7:05am and 7:14am. We officially begin at 7:15am.

Weight Room Closed: Friday 7/30 & 8/5

The weight room will be closed on Friday July 30 and Friday August 6. Next week, ALL GRADE LEVELS should lift together on Thursday for “Day #2.”

I apologize for the inconvenience that tomorrow’s closing may cause.

Also, for each of the next two Wednesday sessions, players will need both sneakers and cleats!

Summer Weight Room Hours

As we officially start our Summer Strength & Conditioning program on Tuesday 7/6, here is the schedule that has finally been confirmed:

Grades 11 & 12: Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday 6pm – 8pm

Grades 7-10: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday 6pm – 8pm.

If you have a LEGIT reason as to why you can not commit to these three (3) nightly workouts each week, the weight room is open Monday and Thursday ONLY from 6am – 7:15am.

We have only six (6) weeks until the start of double sessions for the HS levels that start of August 16 (Monday). Building on the success of CapitaLand Camp is imperative. YOU must continue to improve as a player – WE must continue to improve as a program – this is directly under YOUR control. Also, Modified practice starts on September 1.

CapitaLand Football Camp Reminder

A reminder – our football camp is at COHOES HIGH SCHOOL – Sunday 6/27 through Thursday 7/1.

Sunday is 4:30pm to 8:15pm and Monday is 5pm to 8:15pm. These two days are helmet and shoulder pads.

Tuesday and Wednesday are both 5pm to 8:30pm – you are in FULL PADS because it’s FULL CONTACT.

Thursday is the scrimmage day – JV (grades 9 and 10) STARTS at 4:30 and Varsity (grades 11 & 12) STARTS at 5:30.

You need a mouth piece for camp…

Traffic on I-787 and through Cohoes can be very slow – PLEASE plan accordingly.
