Columbia Football Welcomed EGTA Teacher of the Year, Lisa Westman
Columbia Football was honored to welcome the members of the East Greenbush Teachers Association, and in particular the Teacher of the year Lisa Westman. Miss Westman joined the Columbia Captains on the field as an honorary captain in recognition of being teacher of the year.
Miss Westman is a graduate of Columbia High School. While attending Columbia, Miss Westman played the bass drum at pep rallies and at home games. Reflecting on her time at Columbia Miss Westman says: “ I had the opportunity to strike the bass drum with all my enthusiasm at the Pep Rallies and home games and I have fond memories of those times, especially the game when Columbia Football beat Shen Football.
After graduating from Columbia, Miss Westman attended Saint Rose for both undergraduate and graduate degrees, earning a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a minor in music and a concentration in mathematics, in 1989 and in 1996, earning a Master of Science in Education in the area of Special Education with a concentration in Learning Disabilities.
After being substitute teacher for the East Greenbush Central Schools for many years, Miss Westman joined the wonderful staff at Donald P. Sutherland, where she has taught for 12 years. Miss Westman currently teaches 3rd grade. Miss Westman was nominated for the Teacher of the Year by members of the EGTA, and is truly honored to be part of this wonderful school district!
