Your Scrap Metal Can Be Golden for Columbia High School

Baseball and Football Programs

June 2 scrap metal drive raises funds for both teams.

East Greenbush – That thing rusting in your backyard or cluttering your basement is worthless to you. But it’s valuable to the Columbia High School football and baseball programs.

Yes, the washing machine that agitates you because it no longer “agitates” your clothes, or the basketball hoop lying sideways out by the shed can have a new home at the scrapyard on June 2, when the Columbia football and baseball players and volunteers host a scrap metal drive in Southern Rensselaer County.

Donations will be accepted at Columbia High School,

962 Luther Road, East Greenbush.

Residents are asked to donate broken bikes, old lawnmowers, rusted trampoline frames, fencing, rain gutters and just about any form of scrap metal or iron, including large and small appliances such as dishwashers, dryers and microwaves. We’ll accept just about anything, including the kitchen sink – as long as it’s metal.

The items do not need to be made of solid steel, iron, or metal. We will accept blenders, vacuum cleaners, boilers, weed-eaters, handcarts, copper pipe, screen doors, aluminum siding, coat hangers and old wire, even if it’s insulated.

All proceeds will support the Columbia High School baseball and football programs. And remember: if you can’t – or don’t want to – move it yourself, we’ll come get it.

Please note:

  • We cannot accept propane tanks, tires and appliances that still contain Freon, such as air conditioners and refrigerators. All items with engines must have the gas and oil removed.
  • If you need assistance either loading your vehicle or transporting your donation to the drop-off site, please contact the following volunteers:

Andy Gawrys: agawrys@nycap.rr.com, 892-1501

Jim Smith: jsmith@corningplace.com, 339-1498

The Columbia Football Booster Club is a volunteer, not for profit organization consisting of parents, alumni and friends.  The purpose of the Booster Club is to support and enhance the Columbia football program at all levels through volunteer assistance and fundraising programs, while promoting the highest standards of spirit and sportsmanship. The Booster Club also acts as a liaison between the football teams, parents, school administration and general public.   The Booster Club raises money yearly through concession stand profits, 50/50 raffle, various fundraisers throughout the year and the generosity of the community and parents of our student athletes.   The East Greenbush School District supports it’s sports teams on all levels, however in order to have a competitive Section II, Class AA Football program, additional funding is always needed.

The Columbia Football Booster Club provides financial and volunteer support for the many things needed to run a successful program including; player and coach equipment, video and audio equipment, coach training and certification, coaching assistants, player participation in camps/combines and team challenges, game clock referee, weight room equipment, team dinners, banquets and awards, football website and concession stand.
